Description

The Chick Chat is a sewing chatelaine shaped like a chicken. You wear it around your neck when hand sewing. It holds your little sewing tools in the wing pocket and has a leash to clip onto your favorite little scissors. There is a quick change thread dispenser to hold your current spool of thread so you can pull off what you need with one hand. Stick pins in the padded chicken body and stick your needle in the wing fabric. This is a comfortable, light weight chatelaine and is truly the perfect neck ware to use for sewing on the go.

Wear your Chick Chat when you chit chat at your next sewing hen party! Whether at the bee, the quilt guild meeting, or on the way to the Houston Quilt Show, your Chick Chat will make your portable hand sewing project much easier to manage!

Detailed instructions
pattern
All the fancy glass beads needed for comb, wattles, and eyes
Brass Rod for the thread dispenser (it's Susa's Turning Tool!)
2 lanyard clips for the scissors leash
2 brass rings to hold the thread dispenser in place
A pair of glasses chain findings for hanging this contraption on a ribbon around your neck

You will need to supply:

A fat quarter (18�X21�) of fabric for the body, tail, and wing pocket (or use scraps from your latest project)
4�X4� of fabric for the beak
About 12� X 18� quilting batting (high loft polyester works fine)
2 yards of ribbon (1/4� woven edge grosgrain suggested)
About 3"X12" of a heat activated fabric bonding film such as Steam A Seam 2 to bond 2 layers of fabric together for the tail feathers
Pinking shears are recommended (or clip closely by hand with regular scissors)

Additional tips:

For perkier tail feathers, use two layers of Steam-A-Seam 2. Two layers will also help keep the feather edges from fraying.

Transfer the pattern pieces to freezer paper and you will be able to see through the paper to better fussy cut the fabric. The eye placement is the most important. Choose a part of the fabric design that will help to accent the eye area.
