Description

This is a very comfortable small backpack that can also be carried as a shoulder bag. The rope handles are very comfortable. This bag was successfully tested at the 2005 Austin Quilt Show. It was crammed full of fat quarters, stayed comfortable for hours, and left both hands free for fabric fondling!
This kit includes:
  • Pattern
  • paper piecing patterns for the chevron design shown
  • 7.5’ of GreatDrape (1/4” braided polyester rope)
  • Susa’s Little Turning Tool for covering the rope with fabric
  • three 1.5” diameter buttons to cover plus the tools to cover them
  • 1 piece of Bag Structure for the bag bottom insert
  • Beaded Tassel Kit with black cord and red glass beads for accent.
Click on the picture to see the bag made with the tassel kit that is included with this kit. This kit does NOT include the embroidery or the Chinese coins.

In addition to this kit, you will need the following to make this project
  • Fabric Requirements (whole cloth version):
    • 1/2 yard fabric (44”X18”) for the bag exterior. You can use shirting weight fabrics or slightly heavier weight fabrics such as light weight denim, twill, or drapery weight fabrics. Upholstery weight fabrics will not work well for the fabric covered handles.
    • 1/3 yard (12”X44”) fabric for the bag interior
    • 1 fat quarter (18”X22”) fabric for the bag handle
    • Scraps to cover your fabric covered buttons (buttons are included in this kit)
    • 1 yard of sew-in craft weight interfacing (26”X36”)
    • A small Velcro® Dot for the glasses case closure
  • Fabric requirements for the pieced version (as shown here):
    • 2.5” wide strips from 3 pairs of related fabrics (a darker and a lighter version of 3 colors), about 45” total length of each (can be cut from fat quarters) for the bag exterior
    • Refer to the fabric requirements above for the bag interior, interfacing, and handle.
  • Use a walking foot (if you have one) to machine quilt the pieced fabric exterior to the sew-in interfacing
  • Use liquid starch to prepare the fabric used to cover the rope handles. This step stabilizes the stretch and makes working with bias cut fabrics much easier.

  • Easy Bag!
