Detailed instructions with lots of diagrams are included. The fabric covered rope handles are very comfortable and sized to carry in your hand or carry on your shoulder where you can easily control your bag and navigate through crowds. The finished tote has STRUCTURE and pleasing lines. It will become your favorite.

This kit contains

Pattern, 5’ of Large GreatDrape (1/2” braided polyester rope), black nylon luggage zipper, 4 pieces of Bag Structure for the bag bottom insert and structural frame, and Susa’s Little Turning Tool for covering the rope with fabric. Finished size, 15” wide X 4” thick X15” tall (excluding handles).

In addition to this kit, you will need the following to make this project

Fabric requirements: at least 8 assorted striped fabrics. For the least amount of wastage, buy the fabric in 12” or 24” lengths as you will need to cut strips that run with the stripes that are 10” in length. Buy at least 8 styles.  Fabric to cover the rope handles: one fat quarter (18”X22”). Fabric for lining and tote interior pockets: 1 yard.  Interfacing: 2 yards of #9260 UltraFirm™ by HTCW® (use 2 layers).  Interior pockets interfacing and zipper installation: 15”X22” craft weight iron-on interfacing.  Use liquid starch to prepare the rope closure fabric and all of the striped fabrics before cutting them. This stabilizes the stretch and makes working with bias cut fabrics much easier. Use a zipper foot for the zipper installation (easy method of installation is included that will end zipper phobia) Use a walking foot (if you have one) to machine quilt the pieced fabric exterior to the felt interfacing. A walking foot is also recommended for sewing the side seams (or pin every 2 inches).
