This bundle includes three sizes of the Hourglass Stippling machine embroidery design, a buttonhole design sized for a 1.5" button plus three master layouts and instructions to make three sizes of the pillow shown. The instructions include a detailed pictorial with embroidery tricks and tips. Each design is provided in single stitching (for quilting a quilt sandwich) only. Each design includes a basting rectangle in a separate color. See the free tutorials for information on using the basting rectangles. The actual designs are close to the sizes of the basting rectangles listed below. All designs are sized to fit correctly on these projects. The finished pillows, including the double flange, measure 18"X18", 20"X20", and 18"X24". These designs and these layouts can easily be used to make whole cloth quilted bags and totes too!
These stippling designs are a very small scale and the areas that are not stitched puff up and resemble Trapunto. "Trapunto quilting (Italian for "to embroider"), also called stuffed technique, is a quilting
technique that is quite decorative in that it utilizes at least two
layers, which is padded from the underside. This produces a raised
surface on the quilt" (from the online Wikipedia). Because this stippling is such a small scale, the designs are provided in single stitching only.
The three patterns require one 12"X12", 14"X14", 12"X18" pillow insert respectively, 1 yard to 1.25 yards each of two quilter's weight cotton fabric, 24"X24" of low loft quilt batting, and a 1.5" button. The buttons that you cover with matching fabric work well for this project.

Basting
rectangles are easily removed after all the designs are stitched and are
fabulous for referring to when placing the next design accurately. The basting
rectangles in this group of designs have been digitized in a different color
than the design itself so you can skip stitching it if it does not fit with your needs.
These designs work well for machine quilting with your embroidery
machine. You will need to hoop the project (top fabric, batting, backing
fabric) accurately. A tutorial is located here.
Each
download will come with the machine files (EXP, EMD, JEF, HUS, PEC, PES, VIP,
XXX) and a PDF file of instructions and paper placement templates to print.
After you download a purchase you can delete the machine file formats that you
do not want to keep.
