LittleMouse Needle & Thread Keeper DOWNLOAD
LittleMouse Needle & Thread Keeper DOWNLOAD VERSION
DOWNLOADABLE VERSION: This is the pattern and instructions for making LittleMouse Needle & Thread Keeper.
ArtFabric Studio's Little Mouse is a charmer! With the ears cocked forward and the eyes looking up at you, LittleMouse makes an attentive sewing companion. Needles won’t get lost inside as they can when stuck in a larger pincushion. The tail holds a spool of thread for easy dispensing. There is a needle guard in the base to protect hands from needle pricks. You can use him as a pin cushion and you can also stack bobbins on his tail for easy access. Sand filling keeps needles clean & sharp and gives weight & stability or use fiber-fill to fill and add coins for weight. Sewing time for LittleMouse, 1 hour; stuffing, 5 minutes; hand sewing closed & sewing on ears, 15 minutes; sewing on eyes & whiskers, 5 minutes. Susa's Turning Tool makes turning the tail right side out MUCH easier. The hardest part about this mouse is photographing it. Please look at the pictures to see the personality possibilities. Each one is a real character!
Although using an embroidery machine to help make LittleMouse really makes this project easier, not everyone has access to one. I am making the download available for the instructions to make LittleMouse without an embroidery machine here so that you won't miss out on the fun. If you have an embroidery machine, consider purchasing the download for one of the machine embroidered versions
such as this one
. You can simply skip the embroidering part and make LittleMouse out of the fabric of your choice if you prefer.
You will need the following to make one LittleMouse:
1 fat quarter (or 6”X28”) of tightly woven quilt weight fabric such as batik or hand dyed related fabric.
2 straight pins with smaller glass heads.
1 Susa’s Little Turning Tool (or the wrong end of a small crochet hook).
1 package of LittleMouse Extra Parts if available; or use the following:
12” vinyl coated door bellwire (or use a big pipe cleaner),
heavy duty coated car upholstery thread for whiskers,
small shiny #8 seed beads for eyes
heavy duty vinyl for needle guard
a straight pin with a black head for the nose
Filling: Use fine grade builder’s sand if using LittleMouse as a needle keeper to keep needles and pins clean and sharp. Or use polyfil and add weight with 6 nickels taped together and inserted before sewing closed.
