Description

This kit makes the perfect tote for all of your outings! Included are options for fast flat interior pockets and gathered pockets to hold bottles. There is a zippered interior pocket. The comfortable fabric covered rope handles are worn on your shoulder where you can easily control your bag and navigate through crowds. The finished tote has structure and pleasing lines. This is the whole cloth version of the Handkerchief Corner Tote. However, the interior pockets are different.

This kit contains the following:
  • Pattern
  • 5’ of Large GreatDrape (1/2” braided polyester rope)
  • Susa’s Little Turning Tool for covering the rope with fabric
  • one black nylon luggage zipper
  • 4 pieces of Bag Structure for the bag bottom insert and structural frame at the top of the bag
In addition to this kit, you will need the following:
  • 1 yard of fabric for the bag exterior & to cover the bag bottom insert. You can use shirting weight fabrics (as are commonly used in quilts) or slightly heavier weight fabrics such as light weight denim, twill, or drapery weight fabrics. Upholstery weight fabrics will not work for the fabric covered handles.
  • 1.5 yards of companion fabric for the lining & interior pockets
  • 1/ 4 yard (fat quarter, 22”X18”) to cover the rope handles. This can be a contrasting fabric or it can be one of the 2 fabrics that you are using for the exterior and the lining.
  • 2.5 yards of 27” wide craft weight sew-in interfacing
  • 3”X9” of craft weight iron-on interfacing such as CraftFuse™ by Pellon®
  • 16” of 1/4” wide elastic for gathered pockets for bottles
  • Liquid starch to prepare the fabric used to cover the rope handles. This step stabilizes the stretch and makes working with bias cut fabrics easy.
  • Use a rotary cutter and mat to cut the fabrics.
  • Use a zipper foot for the zipper installation (easy method of installation is included that will end zipper phobia)
  • Use a walking foot (if you have one) to machine quilt the fabric exterior to the sew-in interfacing.
  • A walking foot is also recommended for sewing the side seams (or pin every 2 inches).
  • Use a common household stapler and craft scissors to attach the Bag Structure to the seam allowance and to make the bag bottom insert.
